ABSTRACT

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronically relapsing, pruritic inflammatory skin disease commonly associated with food and inhalant allergies.

Although, proper skin care based on regular use of emollients and skin hydration is the basic therapy in all cases, the importance of identification and elimination of specific and nonspecific triggers in the therapeutic management of AD is undeniable. Skin tests are main tools in the diagnosis of food and aeroallergen sensitivities which are well-known specific triggering factors in AD.

In this article, the recent scientific data on importance, indications and evaluation criteria of skin tests in AD are summarized.
