ABSTRACT

Tinea incognito is the typical appearance change in superficial fungus infections, which are misdiagnosed and treated with corticosteroids. A 60-year-old male patient applied to our outpatient clinic with complaints of erythema and itching on his body. Patient was unresponsive to various topical and systemic corticosteroid treatments for 4 months, and widespread patchy erythema, desquamation and squamous lesions with erythema, pale center and annular in shape were detected in the dermatological examination. Hyphae and spores of fungi were detected in the direct microscopic examination, and Trichopyton rubrum was cultured. Patient responded well to the systemic antimycotic treatment. In this present article, a patient with generalized tinea incognito after systemic and topical corticosteroid treatments is presented and the literature information is reviewed.
