ABSTRACT

Academic counseling for postgraduate specialty students can be defined as selecting appropriate learning activities for the learners to gain required competences in terms of knowledge, professional practice, attitudes and behaviors, and performing these activities in interrelated design. There are many teaching-learning approaches and methods that can be applied in postgraduate specialty training programs. Among these pedagogies, work-based training is accepted as the most up-to-date and appropriate one for postgraduate education. This pedagogy is defined as a teaching/ learning approach which focuses onto learning while performing the work and fulfilling the requirements of it. Basic components of work based training are role modeling, coaching, intentionally structuring, associating, reflection and exploring. In this paper, we try to summarize ways of ideal academic counseling for postgraduate specialty training students in light of basic theoretical principles and related actual literature.
