ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

The use of sun protective cream among the sun protection methods by the academic staff is the first place. However, it has been determined that this method of protection is not conscious and regularly. Academic staff’s knowledge of sun protective creams, SPF, UVB and UVA was found to be inadequate.

Results:

One hundred ninety-six women (44.7%) and 242 men (55.3%) participated in the study. Among the sun protection methods applied by the academic staff were applying sun protection cream, using sun glasses and avoiding sunlight as the first three methods, respectively. When the academic staff’s knowledge levels of sunscreen creams, sun protection factor (SPF), ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) assessed, it was determined that 11.2% of the participants knew the definition of SPF 30. In the question about UVA and UVB, 27.9% answered correctly.

Methods:

A cross-sectional study was conducted in which 438 academic staff participated (a response rate 30.4%). The academic staff was asked to fill out our survey of 26 questions.

Objective:

In recent years, the risk of cutaneous melanoma, skin cancers and photo sensitive skin diseases is increasing with the rise in unconscious sunbathe. The aim of our study is to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and habits of academic staff related to sun protection.
